House of Delegates Resolutions:

Whereas, we are an organization that promotes education of our patients in all GI disease entities. It is resolved that SGNA ask for annual publicity and help from SGNA National to encourage participation by our members in Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month (November).

Whereas, the Doris Barnie Certification Review Course is currently available bi-annually by attendance. It is resolved that SGNA will offer the course for independent study via electronic version for those unable to attend for purchase.

Whereas, generational differences in the workforce are present. It is resolved that more advanced courses be offered to the more experienced endoscopy nurse (5 years or greater).

Whereas, SGNA offers the ABCGN Certification exam on Sunday during the Annual Course. It is resolved that SGNA will offer the ABCGN certification exam on Thursday or Friday prior to the Annual Course.

Whereas, SGNA has not established a position on pregnancy testing prior to procedures done under sedation. It is resolved that SGNA will develop a standard to establish a position on pregnancy testing.

Whereas, conscious sedation is used for many GI procedures and complications can results (respiratory, cardiac arrest). It is resolved that SGNA recommends that one or more professional staff person(s) in the GI unit, endoscopy suite, ASC will be ACLS certified.
